Peter C. Woolfolk

Communications Strategies is a multiple award-winning public relations company founded in 2004. We operate on a very clear principle: Exceed Expectations.


Washington, DC native Peter Woolfolk, president and founder, has 25+ years of successful executive level public relations experience, including a White House appointment as Special Assistant/Communications in the administration of President Bill Clinton. Before going into the administration, he was a press secretary for the 1997 Presidential Inaugural Committee; and the Clinton/Gore 1996 campaign’s Delaware press secretary.


At the close of the Clinton Administration he worked at a consulting firm and provided media relations services for former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. David Satcher. Woolfolk also served  successfully as press secretary to three senior Members of Congress, including the late chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee Augustus Hawkins.


Woolfolk moved to Nashville in 2002 to become the vice president of communications and public relations at Fisk University.  There he created the smooth jazz sound for WFSK-FM radio, one of Nashville’s most popular radio stations.


His additional experience includes: producing and hosting both radio and television public affairs programs; he is an experienced public speaker and guest speaker at colleges and universities.


Currently, he is on the board of directors and executive committee of the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee; a commissioner with the Metro Human Relations Commission, and on the board of directors of  the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce.


Communications Strategies is a certified DBE firm under the Tennessee Uniform Certification Program and with Metro Nashville Government.

Barbara Dab

Barbara is an excellent writer. Recently, she has written, placed multiple op-eds in the Tennessean newspaper, written a script for a Nashville International Airport video. She also  wrote and placed a 1500 word feature article in a national magazine on the construction of Nashville’s Music City Center. Her on-air media experience facilitates securing media placements for clients. Barbara has been a reporter for the Public News Service, a national radio news wire service. She has successfully managed multiple community relations events for our clients. In addition, she currently is the producer and host of public affairs programs on WGFX-FM and WKDF-FM in Nashville, TN where she addresses a wide-range of public issues.


In Los Angeles her experience elevated her to News Director of National Public Radio’s largest news operation KPFK- FM where she was responsible for all aspects of producing the ”KPFK Evening Newshour.” She also managed the live broadcast of the 2000 Democratic National Convention. In addition, she was a correspondent to Pacifica National News Network in Washington, D.C. She has been responsible for managing strategic communications and media relations for many political campaigns, including the election of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa the first Latino Mayor in Los Angeles history. She also successfully managed the strategic and crisis communications for a historic lock-out of the Longshore Workers Union.

Barbara earned her Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism at University of Southern California.


Karen Williams

Since joining Communications Strategies Karen’s senior experience in public relations has successfully guided projects such as media and event planning for a national accountants conference in Nashville, coordination of community outreach for Nashville International Airport’s Master Plan meetings, and community outreach for Metro government’s massive Overflow Abatement Project.


Prior to joining Communications Strategies Karen worked at BellSouth (now AT&T) as regional manager in West Tennessee as South Central Bell/BellSouth’s chief representative in a multi-county territory managing business offices, and serving as the primary media spokesperson, leading community relations activities, and managing key leader contacts. In Nashville she developed internal and external public relations programs to market products, services and programs to achieve regulatory strategies implemented throughout the state; and she served as primary liaison between state / field and headquarters PR operations.


A graduate of Tennessee Technological University Karen She served on the board and as president of CABLE, Nashville’s premier women’s business networking organization in 2005-06; and was appointed by the governor of Tennessee to the Humanities Tennessee Board of Directors.



Dierdre Francis-Dickerson

Dierdre has extensive experience with client strategy development, project conceptual development and more.  She was director of corporate communications for a $7 billion global corporation. There she developed a communications platform that supported business-wide objectives and goals and established messaging platforms; implemented external media campaigns and developed executive leadership plans


Earlier as a senior communications official at Nissan North America she oversaw the design and implementation of major national advertising and marketing campaigns targeting minority markets; built and managed an internal communications department that included staff at all company divisions throughout North America; developed and implemented consumer and trade media strategies for international auto shows; media road shows; satellite tours and other product events. Further, Dierdre provided crisis communications counsel, response strategies, positioning and media messaging to the executive management team; provided media strategy for executive responses and media appearances; designed the company’s first national corporate outreach program, developing the long-term strategies and tactics that would chart the company’s interaction and support of external non-profit organizations.


Dierdre has won multiple awards in public relations and earned a Ford Fellowship in journalism at the University of California at Berkley.
